Eric Van Katwyk has built his career around providing exactly that. Grounded in Construction Reality

Eric began his career in 2004 as a journeyman carpenter, working on high-end custom homes and learning firsthand how buildings are constructed and restored. He then spent more than 15 years in restoration and project management, coordinating trades, managing schedules, and working within insurer service expectations. That background gives Eric a practical advantage in understanding construction costs, how decisions affect outcomes, and how restoration work unfolds on site.

In each file, Eric approaches his work with a single objective: identify the most reasonable and defensible path to restoration. On one multi-million-dollar condominium fire, early decisions around access and sequencing allowed portions of the building to remain occupied, reducing additional living expenses while accelerating recovery. These kinds of results come from experience, coordination, and asking the right questions early.

Proven in High-Pressure Environments

Eric has gained valuable experience in large residential and commercial losses, as well as supporting major catastrophe response across Canada, including flooding, hurricanes, and wildfire recovery in remote northern communities requiring special logistics.

During the 2024 Calgary hailstorm, Eric coordinated over 50 claims ranging in value from $250K to $4.2M. The affected properties included condo communities, golf courses, commercial buildings, and recreational facilities. Eric focused on mobilizing multiple consultants and maintaining consistency across a high-volume deployment, resulting in a streamlined response that earned insurer confidence and ongoing assignments.

Even when handling complex losses, Eric provides clear, detailed reporting that is tailored to the people using it. His reports focus on what is recommended, why it is recommended, and which alternatives were considered, so that decisions can move forward efficiently. This approach has driven repeat engagement, particularly in the Calgary market, where Eric is regularly contacted directly on files requiring detailed cost consulting.
